Class Rules

The Mushroom Bowl is interested in keeping a fun and friendly atmosphere.  Therefore, although we do not actively force racers to undergo tech inspection, we ask racers to follow the below rules in order to maintain a fair and competitive environment.  In general, these rules reflect ROAR rules and guidelines.

Due to the number of participants, we do not run every available class.  This is a list of our most common classes, but if we have 3 or more participants show up for another class, we will run it.

Check out our racing fees page for details on racing fees and transponder rentals.

1/10 Electric Touring Car
Electric touring cars are run with 2s (7.4v) lipo or 6-cell NiMH / NiCD with either a 27T brushed or 17.5T brushless motor setup.  Li-Poly packs must be hardcase per ROAR rules.

Both rubber and foam tires are run in the same class.  Traction compound is allowed -- odorless only.

We are currently running USVTA in the same class as standard sedan touring cars since the power specifications are the same.

There are 3 qualifying heats before the mains.  All races are 6 minutes in length with at most 6 racers per race.  Reshuffling of the class takes place after the 2nd heat.

1/12 Pan Car Electric Super Stock
To incorporate the largest possible community for the 1/12 class, we race the following 4 motor / battery combinations together.  We have found, like others, that these 4 combinations are competitive with each other.  Of course, each has their own advantages and disadvantages, but we see these combinations all making the A-mains regularly.
Motor Type / Size Battery Type
27T Brushed 4-cell NiMH / NiCD
19T Brushed 1S (3.7v) Li-Poly
17.5T Brushless 4-cell NiMH / NiCD
13.5T Brushless 1S (3.7v) Li-Poly

There is no limit on the size of the packs used.  Li-Poly packs must be hardcase per ROAR rules.

Tires are standard 1/12 scale foam with no compound restrictions.  Traction compound is allowed -- odorless only.

There are 3 qualifying heats before the mains.  All races are 8 minutes in length with at most 6 racers per race.  Reshuffling of the class takes place after the 2nd heat.

HPI Cup Racer
HPI Cup Racers will be a "spec class" composed of the same motor and battery combinations.  The motors will be house motors costing $10 per car.  Motors will be kept on site during the week and handed out on race day to prevent tampering.  All motors will be dyno'd within 100RPM of each other to ensure a competitive environment.

Specifics of this class's rules are still be worked on and will be posted shortly.
